Head's Welcome

Welcome from Mr Johnson

Welcome to St James Church School

The children at St James are our greatest asset but we are also blessed with engaged parents, a loving community and a team of staff who put children at the centre of all that we do. Visitors often comment on the positive and supportive atmosphere in our school.

We are an ambitious school located near to the centre of the historic town of Taunton. We cater for children aged 2-11 years and have 14 classes from the Foundation Stage to Year 6 as well as our large and successful Nursery.  Our school community is very diverse with over 25% of our children speaking English as an additional language. We take great pride in this and fully utilise the children’s many different languages, their cultural diversity and heritage as often as possible.

Our school is a fully inclusive school and is widely recognised as offering great support for both children and parents. We were recently featured in the Sunday Times for this support, please see the article here.

At St James Church School we want to help children achieve their full potential. We are lucky to have a hardworking and dedicated team of staff who hold high shared expectations for all of the children that we teach. We encourage a love of learning, the development of self-esteem and strive to make our curriculum fun, exciting and relevant.

As a Church School we aim to develop Christian values and foster a kind and caring attitude towards people as well as for their beliefs. St James Church School is at the heart of our community with excellent links with St James Church. I

We are passionate about the outdoors and practical learning so our curriculum very much reflects this intent. As well as using our local area (Taunton) frequently, we have a wonderful site which has a sports field, forest school area and a gardening/polytunnel area.

I hope you will enjoy looking at our school website and it gives you a flavour of life at St James.  We welcome comments and feedback regarding the website.

I always show parents around personally and encourage potential parents to come and have a look at our school when we are at our best; in lessons and during the school day.

If you require any further information please contact the school directly, we look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely

Nigel Johnson
